MANN JACKSON WAS A PIONEER RESIDENT
Was Born in England in 1838; Died October 20, 1919
After Living Many Years in Same Community.
Once more this community is called to pause a bit, to pay its last respects to another one of its old pioneers who has done his share of the improving of this part of the country in an admirable way. Mann Jackson was born in Shoam, Cambridge Shire, England, July 31, 1838 and died October 20, 1919 being 81 years, 2 months and 19 days of age. He was one of the family of seven children. They came to America with their parents in July 1856, when Mr. Jackson was 18 years of age. On March 18, 1860, Mr. Jackson was married to Miss Frances A. Almon and commenced housekeeping near Canandaigua, New York. Coming from there in February, 1865, he bought and lived on the same place in Roxand until Mrs. Jackson's death, October 15, 1912.
Six children were born to them; Lizzie M. was born February 18, 1861, died October 29, 1881, 20 years, 8 months and 11 days old; John T. of Sunfield; Bert E. of Grand Ledge; Charlie, born January 4, 1866, died September 10, 1882, 16 years 8 months and 6 days old; Sopha K. was born August 7, 1868, and was married to Roy Bosworth August 9, 1885, and died April 19, 1889, 20 years, 8 months12 days old; George A. of golden Valley, North Dakota. He leaves three children, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two brothers and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Jackson was converted at the age of 27 in 1868. He and his wife joined the Baptist church and lived loyal to it until the class here was discontinued when they joined the M. E. church of this place about 1892 and lived faithful to it until their death. They gave literally to all the benevolent enterprises of the church and other worthy calls, as well as to the support of the pastor and they especially enthusiastic in the care of the church property. Mrs. Jackson was the leading member of action in the Ladies Aid until a short time before her death and has been greatly missed by that society. Mr. Jackson felt his loss very keenly, he was all broken up. she was his ideal and the days were long and weary as he looked for the time he might join her with others again. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were one in their church social and home life. Mr. Jackson was an advocate of a cemetery association and of a permanent fund to care for that property. It is to be hoped good will come of it and his example of work there. After a prayer at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Jackson the funeral service was held at the Dow Church Thursday, October 23, 2929 at 11 a.m. Interment was made in the Welch cemetery. Rev. W. Y.
